I am allergic to metals and many other things, as are other humans. For me wearing metal jewelry is special; unfortunately, I cannot experience it, because my allergies make me so incredibly uncomfortable. It is an ugly feeling. I began to wonder about why these tiny, microscopic life forms have such a powerful impact on human beings, who are so much larger. While, researching allergies, I discovered that those nasty cells creating such unpleasantness in humans are strong pathogens. Micro-organisms that contain bacteria that cause disease.
Even though I cannot wear jewelry, I can turn my experience into something beautiful and interesting. My work allows people who have similar experiences of suffering to make those same interesting connections. Perhaps even to see something which appears ugly on the surface but can be beautiful when you look more closely. What I really want to do is allow people to see how those tiny cells are capable of assaulting and brining suffering to humans, but I also want to bring beauty into their lives.
I wish to encourage people to develop sympathy and see different perspectives for people with physical problems. Hopefully this will call attention to the practice of judging humans from their outward appearance, which is extremely limiting. Perhaps through my work they will see the beauty that can be hidden inside.
